BBC Micro bit computer now available commercially for £13

BBC Micro bit computer now available commercially for £13

BBC Micro bit computer now available commercially for £13
The BBC Micro Bit, which is a tiny computing device invented to get children coding, is going to go on sale to the public. Already, the Micro Bit is being delivered free of charge to one million Year 7 children in schools across the country.
It will now also be available to buy from various project partners for £12.99; commercial availability of the Micro Bit results from the signing of a licensing deal with the device's manufacturer, element 14.
Retailers including Technology Will Save Us, Microsoft and Sciencescope will offer singular devices.
The BBC began delivering Micro Bit computers to Year 7 students across the UK in March after some unforeseen delays. Around 80 percent of schools have received theirs to date and pre-orders opened on May 31st 2016 at element 14, with the first deliveries expected in July.
Although a standard Micro Bit costs £12.00, a starter bundle with battery pack, USB cable and some introductory activities costs £15; 10 pack orders are available for a reduced price of £140.

What is the Micro Bit?

The Micro Bit is small microcomputer with an LED array, sensors, programmable buttons, some I/O rings and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Micro Bit was developed by the BBC and partners including Samsung, ARM and Microsoft. It was originally intended to introduce children to the basics of coding and computing. The popularity of the Raspberry Pi boards demonstrates that there is a definite market for cheap hardware for the home and the plan was to make Micro Bits more widely available.
What do you think about the Micro Bit? Is it a good thing to get our children coding from early ages? Or should it be something that is taught in schools when they are a little older? Would you be interested in ordering a Micro Bit for your home environment to encourage your kids to code?

Is the Microsoft Lumia 650 end to the Lumia brand?

Microsoft Lumia 650

The Microsoft Lumia 650 will go on sale on 18 February, with an estimated retail price of between £150 and £160.
Windows Central claimed that the Lumia 650 was likely to be the last Lumia for the year but rumours are about that Microsoft will be turning its attention to the new Panos phone. This surface phone is tipped to arrive some time later in the year; we will most likely see it in the Autumn.

Microsoft Lumia 650 features, specification and design

The Lumia 650 is light and thin (just 6.9mm and weighing in at 122g). The anodized aluminum frame is diamond cut and polished and there is still a removable battery with expandable storage.
The Lumia 650 has a 720p resolution 5in AMOLED screen and there is 1GB of RAM to enable Windows 10 to run – however, the 650 doesn't feature Continuum.
Storage is 16GB and you can add up to 200GB with a Micro-SD card slot. The Lumia 650's cameras includes an 8Mp rear camera and a 5Mp sensor on the front.
Unlike the other Lumia 950 devices, the 650 utilises a Micro-USB port. Technology includes 4G LTE with Cat 4 and there is also Bluetooth 4.1, 11b/g/n Wi-Fi, NFC, FM radio and A-GPS.
The Lumia 650 will be available in white or matte black.

Smartphones, tablets and the need for a responsive website

As smartphone technology evolves, more and more of us are going to browse the internet on these devices. This is why it is crucial that websites are fully responsive; if people can’t view your website properly on smartphones and tablets, this is not looked upon fondly by search engines.
It is also more likely that people will steer away from your website if it is not responsive and go to other, more modern websites instead.
If you would like help redesigning your existing website to make it responsive, or would like to speak to us regarding website design in general, call ACE Computer Support on 01902 375 304 – we will be happy to help!

How to make the most of your Business with your Website

How to make the most of your Business with your Website
Even in this day and age, there are still many SMEs that do not make the most of the internet.
Websites – in some cases, if there is one at all – are often left to stagnate, not being updated regularly to keep them looking fresh.
These days, it is all about content; by ensuring that your website has a news and/or blog room that is updated regularly with relevant, informative information, your website will stand a much better chance of being looked upon favourably by search engines. This, of course, is imperative for search results when potential clients are looking for services that you offer.
In addition, it is vital that your website is responsive i.e. that it can be viewed properly on tablet devices and smart-phones.
If your website has an old-fashioned or amateur look and feel to it, this could also send customers who do come across it fleeing to more modern, rival sites.
Social media is also something that is free of charge and it is a great way to get your products or services out there. By having active accounts, you will again be increasing your company presence in search results.
ACE Computer Support offers affordable solutions for clients in need of website rebuilds or even new websites if there isn’t one present.
We can also offer advice and provide social media services, including setting up accounts, training and even social media management and content provision.
Don’t take the risk of losing customers by neglecting your website; our prices are competitive and whatever you need is likely to me much more affordable than you may think.
For an initial discussion, call us today on 01902 375 304 – we look forward to hearing from you!

Top 5 Tips for good Website Content

Last week, we covered the much-feared Google Panda Algorithm and tried to shed a little light on it for any of you who may be concerned that your website could be at risk.

As we explained, the Google Panda Algorithm has existed since February 2011. When it was introduced it resulted in lots of “low-quality” websites dropping right down from high Google page rankings; in some cases, being excluded altogether.

Panda will be putting high quality, relevant content at the top of their search results and banishing poor content.

Here are our Top 5 Tips for Good Website Content to help make sure that it doesn’t happen to your website:

·         The article needs to be well-written i.e. grammar, punctuation and spelling
·         Relevancy of the article i.e. if the content has anything to do with the title

·         Content that makes sense to the reader

·         Advertising that detracts away from the article

·         Affiliate links that have little or nothing to do with the article

Does your Website have good Content?

If you do not update your website, or do not have a blog or news page, it is well worth considering introducing one now. If you do post regularly, it is wise to take steps to make sure that quality is good and that your website doesn’t become a casualty of the Google Panda Update.

Are you too Busy to Manage Your Website Content?

As a small business owner, you may find it difficult to take the time to update your website or blogroom – this is often the case so if you do, you are not alone!

ACE Computer Support offers a reliable and affordable website content and social media solution to clients across the UK; if you would like to find out more, call 01902 375 304 today.

What is the Google Panda Algorithm and could it Affect Your Website Ranking?

If you have any interest in website rankings over and above traditional pay per click advertising, you will probably know about – or will heard of – much-feared Google Algorithms. Yes, one minute your website could be right at the top of page one without advertising and the next, it could vanish off the face of the earth.

But why is this and how can you prevent it? Can you foresee when Google will change their Algorithm and stop it from happening?

In a word: no. Google decide when it wants to change its algos and also decides what it is looking for. Here is what you need to know about the Google Panda algorithm that has recently been updated – make sure that your website doesn’t get caught out this time around!

What is Google Panda?

A few months ago, Google told us that it would be updating the Penguin algorithm to go real-time? It is likely that this is happening now, but website publishers should also be worried about Google Panda, which is different algorithm that forms part of the search engine's mission to update itself on a constant basis.

Panda has actually been around since February 2011 – when it was introduced it did indeed cause a lot of “low-quality” websites that relied on spam-type “keyword-stuffing” to drop right down from, in many cases, high Google page rankings.

Panda’s aim is to ensure that high quality and relevant content is at the forefront of Google searches – poor content will be punished by being pushed down the rankings, or even in some cases, excluded completely.

The main reason for this is the Google is aware of the increased competition in the search engine market. For example, Bing is taking up a bigger share of the market year-on-year, so Google has to be known for reliable results when people are browsing.

We will be bringing you more information on this topic in next week’s blog, with our Top 5 tips for good Website Content guide.
